For lovers of Japanese Whisky a must visit. Skip the free tasting head straight to the museum as the paid tasting bar is there. I suggest heading straight to the shop after as they have quite a few Distillery only bottles on offer, these are not sold outside and if it is I’m sure you will pay a high price compare to here. Also learn a lot in the museum about their history and the story of the creator of Nikka Whisky. Lots of grounds to cover inside from entrance to the shop.

Excellent, short walk from the train station, nice museum and good to see how they are still distilling the traditional way. Excellent store with some distillery only products that are pretty much impossible to get anywhere. Bit out of the way but well worth the trip.

Fantastic venue in the little village of Yoichi, well worth a detour! The distillery is free to tour, and you can even sample three different whiskies for free. Well stocked whisky shop, and licensed bar (not free but great drams on offer)

Visited Nikka Yochi Distillery in Nov 2018.To me, it’s more like a sight-seeing spot. It’s really big and beautiful, my mates and I had taken lots of nice photos. Yochi Distillery also generous to let visitors tasting 3 kinds of whisky for free. Because of the above, its also a popular spot for group tourists. So that it’s really hard to savour the whiskey to get its full flavour.

If you can understand Japanese, the free, informative guided tour of the beautiful grounds plus the tasting sessions would make it a 5 star experience. If you can't, the lack of exhibits in the handful of buildings without locked doors would keep you clueless on how whiskey is made, degrading the experience to 3 star only.

We did not really walk around and do much. We just quick had the whiskey tasting and went out way. The food whiskey in the free one aren’t great but I know that they have the paid version as well which I assume you get more premium whiskey. I don’t think there is anything the shout about but if you have time, worth stopping by.

Well worth a visit! Just a short walk from Yoichi station. If you have luggage, you can leave it at the coin lockers in the station, so there's no excuse not to make a brief stop here. Free tasting available, or you can pay for more premium drinks at the bar.

Great experience especially for the whisky lovers! Came especially to Yoichi to visit and it's a great experience indeed! Should try all the single malts, the premium, and the free ones. You should definitely eat in their restaurant to try the whisky and wine shabu2.

A whisky distillery with museum and free samples of three type of alcohol. We have Apple wine, single malt Ang Super nikka. They also provide free tea and Apple juice drink for non-alcohol drinkers. It’s also have a restaurant and whisky shop next door. The whole place is also quite picturesque. It’s best come in the late afternoon just before sunset. This is my second visit. The first was in 2017 during late afternoon.

Great experience of the brewery. The staffs are very good at explaining with humor (need to reserve in advance on the web site). Free tasting of 3 types of whiskey is very generous where other breweries usually charge for the tour and the tasting.Nice walk in the area and you can hop into several buildings. You will learn the history of Japanese whiskey and how they are made.

A great place to learn about whiskey making and drink of course.Learning:There is a FOC whiskey tour available at certain time of the day. The last time I went, they only provide tours in Japanese. For those who want to learn about whisky making process, you can follow the route provided in the brochure and read the English descriptions.Architecture:Worth taking a look at the old style buildings.Whiskey tasting:*Note that they have strict policies on drink driving, should you be driving, they will not allow you to take the free whiskey tasting. At some other sake tasting tour, they disallow me to drink because I rode a bicycle. Safe driving or cycling strictly enforced.1) Best part of the tour is free whiskey tasting, they provide 3 whiskey for tasting and instructions on how to enjoy them.2) There is a whiskey bar for paying customers to try others.

Best place to visit when you are in Yoichi! We came especially to visit the distillery and it worth a visit!Free admission to enter, wonderful environment, the building are well planned, good floor plan and most important, spectacular whiskey! The distillery offers free whiskey tasting, although the selection of the free tasting are more entry level bottles, the quality is still good! On the other hand, the distillery also offers a separate bar area for paid tasting which includes selective award winning bottles, this is definitely one of the best places to go if you are a whiskey lover!Don’t forget to purchase souvenirs at the merchandise store when leaving!

Very much worth the train ride from Sapporo. We started with the complimentary tastings which overlooks the distillery grounds upstairs. The guided tour was very informative and the gift shop was the highlight. Home to some 'only in Yoichi' whiskies which are very reasonably priced.

Great side trip from Sapporo. The guided tour is only in Japanese, but the videos and pamphlet are more than required. The tasting room is amazing. You can get whiskey that can be found no where else at minimal cost. I only wish you could buy the bottles of what you enjoyed.

I had a great time at this distillery. The staff were lovely and helpful, the information and videos available on the self guided tour were amazing and the shop was fantastic. I went at the end of winter/start of spring, so the grounds were a little less pretty than it would be in summer/late spring. It was particularly lovely reading the story about the founder Masataka Taketsuru and his wife Rita... They are clearly so loved by the people of Yoichi and the distillery is proud of the history with Scotland... Yoichi even had an official tartan. Love it!The only thing I found that was better than this distillery was their Nikka Miyagikyo distillery near Sendai!

Did a self guided tour here. Beautiful grounds and they really do a nice job of telling the story of the founders journey. Be prepared to be dissapointed in the whisky shop. All single malts sold out and ive been told this is a regular occurance.

This is one of the whisky distilleries you must come if you are the fan of Japanese whisky. The distillery is well set in the region of Yoichi, which is about 1 hour train ride from Sapporo. The distillery is full of history. Must get a tour around the factory and museum.

Great self-guided tour of the Nikka whiskey production process with decent English language coverage. The free samplers include the standard single malt Yoichi, Super Nikka blend, and an apple liquor. It was interesting learning about the history of Nikka (lots of museum content here for this) but not incredibly thorough about the actual whiskey development. The shop at the end has some rarer Nikka whiskeys exclusive to the location.

The distillery is easily accessible from the nearby JR station. Plenty of parking spots if you drove to the location. There is a toured guide for those interested and signing up ahead of time is highly recommended. If not, you can venture around on your own as English is practically available on all the signs and media. There is also a free tasting at their location. They offer their single malt whisky, a whisky blend as well as an apple wine. There is also a self service area where you can get ice and water for your drinks. Also available are vending machines for you to buy some snacks to go along with these drinks!

Nice exhibits. Visit was totally soured by one of the servers dumping out my water bottle after I tried to fill it. You're serving alcohol to people; you should allow them to have water. What a joke! Instead of allowing me to fill up half a water bottle, you dump my water out. Terrible experience!

So lovely! Balanced, not "spiky".You taste the peat and the smoky savour in perfect equilibrium...But what i like most is the "briny hint"!!! Just to relish a sip or two before getting lost in your blankets!

Sick place to visit, if you are a lover of whisky; or if you just enjoy learning aswell. Its about a 10-15 minute walk at a slow pace, from the jr Yoichi station. I try to come visit this distillery, whenever I have a strip to Hokkaido. The whisky history, process, and tastes at the tasting bar inside the museum is phenomenal. I'd recommend the cogac x nikka, however they only have this sometimes; but never in a regular liquor store. The 21 year is also good, much more commonly available at the bar. Then at the end of the tour; even if you are on your own,n you can go to the tasting stop; that is above the restaurant, and will get 2 whiskies and a wine to taste, find a place to sit and relax. Love this gem; also there is a memorial of sorts that initially told me to go here; in takehara, Hiroshima.

Located in Yoichi, Hokkaido, Yoichi Distillery is one of the most iconic distillery in Japan, also a must visit for spirit and whisky lovers, local and overseas alike. Free distillery tour (only in Japanese) is available through online reservation, all visitors are free to sample 3 types of spirits (apple wine, Super NIKKA and Yoichi NAS) after tour. Be sure you don’t miss out their on-site souvenir shop, where you’ll find a selection of distillery limited whisky. Highly recommended.

If you can, definitely make your way down here! The self-guided tour is fairly interesting, with some English explanations available, mostly in the form of short videos. The best part is the whiskey tasting. I couldn’t believe it was all free! There was apple wine, Super Nikka and Yoichi single malt whiskey. There’s good English signage and tasting notes. I really love how you’re encouraged to try the whiskey multiple ways including my favourite, as a highball.Trains are infrequent, so plan ahead and time well.
